How to Use This Calculator

  • Select your project type from the dropdown to help us recommend the right material depth.
  • Enter the length and width of your project area in feet. For irregular shapes, break the area into rectangles and calculate each one separately.
  • Enter the depth in inches. Common depths: 2–3 inches for walkways, 3–4 inches for patios, 4–6 inches for driveways, 12–18 inches for French drains.
  • Review the results — the calculator shows cubic yards, tons, and estimated cost with a 10% overage built in.

Coverage Chart: How Far Does a Ton Go?

The number of square feet one ton of material covers depends on the density of the material and the depth you apply it. Here is a quick reference:

Why We Include 10% Overage

Our calculator automatically adds a 10 percent overage to your order. This accounts for compaction loss, uneven subgrade, and minor spreading beyond your project boundaries. In our experience, running short is far more expensive than having a small surplus — a second delivery can cost $100 to $150 in fees for just a small top-up load.

If you have leftover material, it is always useful for future maintenance, filling low spots, or sharing with a neighbor.
